Studies of More Land & Water is a love letter to Florida - the kind written after knowing something long enough to see all its scars.
Built almost entirely from discarded and repurposed materials, the manatee carries evidence of the world around her: algae, moss, boat strikes, strange little wounds, and the slow persistence of something wild learning to live alongside us.
There is something very Florida about loving a thing while also being one of the reasons it needs saving.
Manatees have survived changing coastlines, disappearing habitat, polluted water, propellers, tourists, hurricanes, and generations of people insisting on building just a little closer to the water. Still, they return. Still, they move through the springs and rivers with an almost unreasonable gentleness.
The sculpture lives somewhere between what we keep, what we change, and what we are afraid to lose.
